Neo Yokio, a new animated series by Vampire Weekend frontman Ezra Koenig has just been announced by Netflix. Watch the first trailer for it above!!
Ezra Koenig created/wrote/executive produced the series together with writer/executive producer Nick Weidenfeld. It follows Kaz Kaan, the youngest member of a family of “magistocrats” – pink-haired demon slayers who once liberated the city of Neo Yokio.
Neo Yokio is said to be a futuristic version of New York which is combined with Tokyo. The voiceover explains: “Neo Yokio is the greatest city in the world. It is a diverse labyrinth of cultural and architectural innovation. Of course, whenever a city becomes the envy of the world problems are bound to arise.”
The series stars Jaden Smith as Kaz Kaan, and Jude Law as his giant robot butler Charles. There are also appearances from he likes of Susan Sarandon, Tavi Gevinson, Jason Schwartzman, the Kid Mero and Desus Nice. Other voice contributors include Steve Buscemi, Kiernan Shipka, Willow Smith, Richard Ayoade, Stephen Fry, and Amandla Stenberg.
It was made in collaboration with Netflix and anime studio Production IG and Studio Deen, as well as animation studio MOI.
All six episodes of Neo Yokio will premiere on Netflix on September 22.
