The Wall Street Journal reports that Condé Nast is shutting down Detailsmagazine.
There have been rumors swirling around the closing of Details for a while now. Like, a long while. But the news the news officially broke today. The final print edition of Details will be the December 2015/January 2016 issue while Details.com will still be active and begin a transition into GQstyle.com. With GQ as the premier men’s brand for Condé Nast, the piece states that it will increase the frequency of its twice-a-year GQ Style edition to quarterly installments to build on its success. According to the piece “about 20% of the 60 people on Details’ staff will find other jobs inside Condé Nast,” so you’d figure a few of them will end up with the new GQstyle.com.
The Details closing has been a long time coming, especially when you consider this 2010 Observer piece revisited via Twitter that essentially states “Details only exists so advertisers won’t go to Esquire and create a true GQ vs. Esquire rivalry.” Some food for thought. Anyway, it’s a sad day for many of the talented and super cool people over there. Pour one out and pay your respects.
